The post- Robert Sheppard Symposium poetry reading: videos (set list) and my reading

In the evening after the symposium (see here) a reading by Allen Fisher (old and new work), Robert Hampson (sonnet-related, but Shakespeare), Zoe Skoulding (a new revolutionary calendar), Antony Rowland (pies!), Patricia Farrell (filth!), Rhys Trimble (fake Welshman to fake Belgian), Natasha Borton (re-functioned symposium-speech), Scott Thurston (a return to Turns), Andrew Taylor (soup!), Steven Waling (Japanese translations ahem!), Brendan Quinn and Bill Bulloch (an MA collboration), Joanne Ashcroft (more singing, soundplay), Jo Blowers and Steve Boyland (improv voice piece segueing into 'Kybarti Junction' by Jurgita Zujute (of the EUOIA) and Tom Jenks ('Famous Belgians'), took place at the Arts Centre at Edge Hill (also the venue of the Ship of Fools exhibition that is on all this March!).

I read some of my new sonnets to kick off the evening: my 'Brexit' sequence 'Break Out' (100 word sonnets) and my current work-in-progress 'Hap: Understudies of Thomas Wyatt's Petrarch'. (More on my sonnet writing here, and my previous 'Petrarch' sequence here.) One begins:

My tongue is rigid, moist in attentive silence, unlike

those of slack Brexiteers who promised the riches of the land

to a sequacious populace without delivery or deliverance.

Taking only the sonnets Wyatt ‘translated’ from Petrarch, but adding a few of my own, I’ve merged the historical Wyatt with his hysterical contemporary analogue, a reluctant civil servant of a corrupt administration.
